Anyone heard any news of a new Williams Catalog with some new Postwar Reproductions or other new items. There website has not been updated since last year? Anyone hear anything at York?
I just received a new Williams Brochure. It shows reproductions of all of the old Lionel postwar classics like an assortment of F3, streamliner cars, GG1’s, the semiscale Hudson etc. Williams seems to be following the philosophy that recreations should follow the same simple construction as the originals,-no advanced electronics and fancy controls. There are advantages and disadvantages to this approach. On one hand you lose some of the operating play value that TMCC offers but on the other you may gain reliability from the design simplicty. I’ve always liked Williams products as they look and perform well.
I like their older diesels of a couple years ago. With the PW golden series, prices have climbed. I got my Williams diesels for the price benefit, reliability and operation. Add more to the cost and I’m not there.
Easy and cheap to convert to TMCC.
some of their stuff like the turbine and the small hudson costs more than the postwar originals. Check eBay.
The Williams repros are a much better value than Lionel’s repros IMHO.
I 'm a traditional/post war fan who has come to prefer the new repros over the originals because of their new condition and, I think, better operating characteristics. I recently received their latest flyer consisting of their traditional line of mostly post war style items but in non-original Lionel paint schemes. The new pricing structure has given me second thoughts on getting any more Williams items in the future. I’m not sure how they can justify their scale hudson priced at $600 list /$500 discount when K-Line has far more detailed item with command/railsounds and a street price of <$450?
