Next NS GEVO Order

I know so far that NS has GEVO’s (ES40DC’s) numbered from 7500-7562. When are the 7563-7600’s going to be ordered? I have been wondering for quite some time now.

And also, when is NS going to be painting their current order of GEVO’s? They are only up to the 7520’s now and I believe that they’ve painted the 7543.

If you can answer these two questions I’d really appreciate it. These two questions have been circling my mind for a while now and it’s time to finally ask them!

Rich

The NS ES40DCs will be painted when they get their 90 day inspection, time and the need for them being the factors that might lead to their not being painted. Then too, if Roanoke does their 90 day, then they’ll get painted at the next 90 day inspection, if it is at Juniata or Chattanooga that is. There are a handful of D9-40CWs still in grey after up to four years! The next order for NS power went to EMD for SD70M/2s! They will keep going in to the 2700s by the end of this year.

They’re already at 2778, that’s as high as they’re going, so I’ve heard.

Got a nice shot of the 2776 at our diesel shop…still nice and clean…thats one wicked looking locomotive!
And it still has that “New Locomotive Smell” inside…

The last I heard, another 100 GEVOS were supposed to be delivered later this year…I would like to see them keep on ordering the SD70M-2’s too…I have heard some of those M-2’s fighting up the East and West Slope grades in the Altoona-Johnstown area of Pa and those M-2’s have quite a turbo howl to them when they are wound up…

I’d rather they order more SD70M-2s than ES40DCs. EMD could use the business.

NS 7541 is also in NS paint now. Just saw it heading west out of Toledo, leading a stack train at 21:45.
And yes the SD70M-2’s do have quite a howl to them, and so do their horns. Almost got blown away by one tonight. It was quite a bit louder than the horn on the Dash-9 that had just passed going the other way.

lol. UP and BNSF are giving EMD plenty of business. UP has a LOT of SD70ACEs, even though i have yet to see any

I thought that you hated UP, LOL. The CNW Heritage Unit is going to be 1995 and will obviously be an SD70ACe. It’s original number is either gonna be one of two numbers. Either 8531 or 8532, I think.

and those new sd are very fun to run they beat those evo ge junk things hands down

Wabash, I’ll bet you just like listening to that bell.

Does there live an engineer or conductor who doesn’t cuss the clown that thought that was a good idea?

Seems like I just saw 7565 and 7566 just the other day here in Roanoke.

It is frightening to think these are the type of people our institutions of higher education are turning out!

Are the gray catfish a type of hybrid? I know albinos are quite rare. We catch the black ones here in Kentucky all the time. We just throw ‘em back and start fishin’ again. [:D]

i just put the ear plugs in so i dont hear the bell

There aren’t any earplugs that good UNLESS your ears are THAT bad already.[:D]

Big Jim, very astute comment, you’ve got to wonder.

Does the bell ring constantly?

No, cuz while watching the NS 2697 go by Berea, OH once the bell turned off after about thirty seconds after passing the grade crossing.

I know that the same goes for the GEVO’s because their bells are not constantly on. What r u guys all talking about?

Rich

When you blow the whistle on the newest EMD products, the bell continues to ring for 30-45 seconds and the engineer can’t shut it off, which I find most annoying. Most I know complain about it, there’s really no good reason for it, although some might argue otherwise, probably those who don’t have to put up with it. [V] No earplugs are THAT good.

This isn’t true of the GEVO power.
