I just wanted to share a recent experience with you all about an order I placed with NHS Hobbies. That site was passed to me by someone on this site and last week I made my first order. This was after my disappointing day trip out to the hobby store.
I am VERY HAPPY with my experience with NHS Hobbies. I ordered three Altas C83 remote snap switches and a package of Pipettes, total, $44 and some change. I made the order last Sunday afternoon, got an order confirmation almost right away, if not the next day. (It was a Sunday after all), a few days later I got a shipping notification WITH a package tracking number. And lo and behold, there was a package waitng for me on my door step Monday evening when I got home from work. The prices were great and the order was handled the way I feel things should be handled. No out of stock items, no delay’s, good customer contact. I will definately order from them again.
I usually try to give my business to the LHS cause I don’t want them to fold under like so many others have and I’ve heard many a horror storys on this board about other places, so I just wanted to share my GOOD experience about NHS Hobbies in the hopes that others will use them too.
Good luck everyone, I hope your experience is as good as mine was.
Hi I-5. I’m not sure about a big selection with them. I’ve been having a hard time finding a decent price on what I purchased, so when I saw that they had that I really didn’t pay too much attention to anything else. Good luck, I guess eveyone has different needs and this place satisfied mine. [8D]
Now I don’t know if they should carry every possible item and maker, but I thought that when it came to various track pieces and and structures they had a pretty decent selection. I myself am planning on getting my flex track there in bulk for like $5.00 cheaper then the past few places I’ve found. A few packs of rail joiners and those pipettes you pointed out looked good too. I haven’t used those yet for ballasting but after watching Cody Grivno’s demo on the Beer Line I’m sold!!! Thanks for the info on the site.
NHS ROCKS! Great folks. Great prices! Great service! They’re actually a hardware store that started selling hobby items on E-Bay. They can special order any stock Walthers items at (I believe) 20% off list or the Walthers sale price. (which ever is lower)
Another vote here for the great folks at NHS!! I was lucky enough to find them and ended up getting some switches and all of my Atlas Code 83 flex from them. Good people and good, fast service! I would definitely buy from them again.
Mike, I’ve tried ballasting and Tony G. really makes it look easy, but practice makes perfect. I totally enjoyed that video instruction though. I’ve seen a hundred articles about ballasting but actually seeing someone do it first hand was much better.
I just did an order with NHS a couple of hours ago. They do not have a wide assortment of HO stuff, but they do have what I needed - at the lowest prices I have seen. My order was for Atlas HO flex track, Midwest roadbed, and track joiners and the like. What I especially like is that they take PayPal, and I have a good sum left in there from the winter’s Ebay auctions.
The last few months I’ve spent some bucks gearing up for the switch to DCC and the layout rebuild. I’ve been extremely pleased with Caboose Hobbies and Toy Train Heaven, and hopefully NHS will be on par with them.
Ive ordered allot of items from NHS many times and was always pleased with service. I had ordered a Walthers building kit from them once, and they called to explain that they were out of stock and would get it to me asap. They shipped it at no extra cost in shipping to me. Very nice people to deal with.
This is a follow-up to my earlier posting is this thread…
I placed my order via internet with NHS Hobbies on 2/17, and paid immediately via PayPal. I got an acknowledgement the next day. I did not hear from them until last week, when I got a shipping notice stating delivery via UPS would be today - 3/03.
The order just arrived on my doorstep, well packed and complete. I was a little disappointed in that it took two weeks to get the order, but as I am not ready to use the items (flextrack, roadbed, tracklaying supplies), I can’t complain. Also, while they have a limited HO selection, they did have everything I needed at prices below any of the other companies I checked out.
One thing I have realized in my “spending spree” these last few months is that not one shop is best for all things. I got the DCC system and accessories from one place, #8 turnouts and machines from another, and track/roadbed from another. And, when it comes time to buy the 40 plus decoders I need, I will probably add a couple of more shops to my “supplier network”.
In choosing the different shops, the primary criteria was availability and price. However, dependability, delivery time, and communication are other factors that will make me a return customer - or not.
