I was up in Niagara Falls this weekend, and I was unable to find the rail line through the tourist areas that is on all the maps. Was wondering if anyone new its status. Is it buried, abandoned, realigned. Also, which bridge dose Amtrak use to get into Niagara Falls. The Whirlpool Bridge appears to be auto only, and the Whirlpool railroad bridge was blocked off in multipul places. Any info would be great. Thanks.
Amtrak uses the upper level of the Whirlpool Bridge.

The CP (ex MC) bridge just to the south is no longer used.

You were at NIAGARA FALLS???..“SSSSSLLLLLOWLY, I turned, step by step. inch by inch”- Howard/Fine/Howard…(sorry, couldn’t resist)
Don’t forget Abbott anfd Costello. Sloooowly I turned, step by step…
The whirlpool bridge is closed to vehicles that are not pre-cleared to cross under the Can-Am Pass system. Next year, if common sense doesn’t intervene, you’ll need a passport ($75.00 US) or a $50.00 ID![V] It is a good thing you didn’t try to photograph Amtrak 63 or 64 on or near the bridge. The local authorities would have [banghead][censored][D)][censored][banghead][
] with you and that would only have been the beginning! NOW!! The best version of Slowly I Turned? Abbott & Costello! The Stooges stretched it out over the whole feature. Too bad the Warner Brothers Cartoon units, Looney Tunes or Merrie Melodies didn’t do it with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd! THAT would have been great, Doc![#offtopic]
And now, for the REST-of the–Story. The CP (ex Canada Southern, Michigan Central, New York Central, Penn Central,Conrail) Hamilton Sub has been out of service and removed from the east end of Montrose yard in the southern part of Niagara Falls, ON,up to the Michigan Central Arch since 2001. CP and Niagara Falls ON did this to get CP’s single train each way a day out of the congested tourist area along Main St, and Stanley Ave further south. The International bridge over the Niagara between Fort Erie, ON and Buffalo NY now sees more traffic, but CN moved about a third of theirs over to Sarnia-Port Huron, thence Detroit and points south. NS cut their traffic through there, too, sending traffic through Detroit, instead. Congestion on CSX in Buffalo did that. CSX is rehabbing the belt line through Buffalo, but too late to help, naturally! the Belt is a bottleneck, with only one track able to handle 20’2" cars, and Nothing over 300,000 lbs. That is not being addressed, yet.
There is a Ford Facility that has it’s own yard switching cars in and out of the plants. Ive taken a few loads out of there. The Customs area that govern the bridges between the Canada and USA borders are tight control and watchful of this area.
I have had no problems going thru there but all but one of my entry into Ontario is via Detroit and Winsdor, Everything came out thru Buffalo. I have never seen the Falls themselves but understand that the waters in that area are quite powerful.
There is a great deal of commerce in that area and it is really high paced.
On a related question, is that General Mills still up and running in Buffalo?
Can someone explain (in small words please[:D]) the reference to Slowly I turned…I don’t quite get it [D)]. Thanks
