the Wife was having her Christmas party for her workers at the house, so my daughter and I drove up to Lou Palumbo’s Underground RR shop. found a few treasures in his junk box, plus a marx Toy Factory and a Placticville switch tower. I’ll have to make another run after Christmas. got in to see his layout, and even got to talk to Lou himself. signed up for his yearly give away train. this year it’s a Polar Express outfit.
What did you find in the junk box?

a few SP cabooses(of course) grabed a pair for the trucks. This leads to a question. just what do you do with all those caboose frames? I just hate to toss original Lionel parts away, but just how many SP caboose frames?
a few boxcar bodies, and some track.
Consider making one detailed caboose from parts. Take a shell and add some wire handrails to the sides. Maybe pop on a few lanterns. Repaint the frame… I took a post war SP caboose and made it into a Boston and Maine road name. Looks sharp!

Jim, you have a picture of that caboose?
No, but I could take one for next Sunday’s photo thread.

Kit bashing is also fun. Make a caboose with one end a box car on box car frame.
A nice evening indeed! These are good ideas - you can also use the frames to create other kinds of cars - I would probably try to make some sort of combine - for freight and passengers on those routes that don’t merit their own passenger train.
Hello LL675!
Never throw Lionel parts away! That is like taking $$$$$$ & throwing it into the wind. I’m sure you can always find a buyer for your parts or sell them to a parts dealer as they are on the lookout for old parts too. Take Care.
