You should see what a SW9, trying to pull 90 someodd cars with air brakes set up can do.
Burned through the ball of the rail over an inch deep.
We had a discussion about this one, I belive the conclusion was a RCL or DPU kept pushing on a stopped train.

I’m quite sure it is. That particular one is on CSX, but I am familiar with one that happened on Conrail where a helper engineer fell asleep at notch 8 and the train stalled with similar results…
