NKP 765 was rescued from a park and that reminded me of a ‘park’ engine that used to be in Broadripple park in Indianapolis. I believe it must have been very muck like 765. Anyone know what happened to her?
Could you be thinking of Nickel Plate 2-8-2 #587? Link to picture follows:
Hello Dug Fin: The Nickel Plate #765 is alive and doing very well in N.E. Indiana. Ft Wayne historical railroad society has restored her to prominence. She is one beautiful lady again.
John
That locomotive was in fact the 587, today it is under resoration and due out in 2011 if funding is available. It’s owned by the Indiana Transportation Museum.
Thank You all.
I had not realized there were two restored ‘park’ engines in Indiana. I had thought the Broadripple engine had been restored and then I read about the engine from Fort Wayne and thought that maybe I was mistaken. That they are both in running trim is the best news!
2-8-2 639 is in Miller Park in Bloomington, Il. I walk by her about every day and dream about someone pulling her back to the tracks and restoring her.
IIRC from a book I read that 587 Original Tender is on the 639 and the 639 tender was put on the 587 since it was a larger capicity.
