NJ club celebrates 45 years with open house

A milestone in model railroading will be celebrated the last two weekends of October as the Garden State Central Model Railroad Club, Inc. of Asbury Park, NJ marks its 45th anniversary with their annual open house.

The club’s large HO scale layout will be operating with multiple trains. There will be a slide presentation on the history of the club, and a white elephant model train sales table as well.

Children and their families are welcome, as there is something for everyone to enjoy. Railfans will note scenes modeled after Scranton and Bethlehem, PA and Jersey City, NJ. The layout features areas of the DL&W, CNJ, LV and Laurel Line railroads.

Highlights include the Bethlehem Steel mill and the one-of-a-kind operating McMyler Coal Dumping Machine.

The club is especially interested in meeting former employees of Bethlehem Steel, the Jersey Central railroad and anthracite mining. Modelers wishing to join may learn about how to apply.

The display is open:
Friday October 17 & 24 from 7-9PM
Saturday Oct. 18 & 24 from 12-4PM
Sunday Oct. 19 & 25 from 12-4PM

The club is located on the corner of Deal Lake Drive and 8th Avenue (608 8th Avenue) on the north side of Asbury Park. Those interested in taking the train have a one mile walk from the NJ Transit station in Allenhurst.

Hi, Nice to meet some of the “online contingent” this past weekend. I forgot to note that we have an extensive white elephant table this year. Hope to see you this weekend! Rob
