Makes sense. Make it permanent! Having a desk jockey, who might know a little about operations, on board is a big plus. They might even learn something about railroading!
Years ago-the 1950’s-when my mom was going to Fordham Law School at night, she often rode the subway from the school in lower Manhattan to either Queens or Brooklyn, depending on whether she was staying at home or at her grandmother’s. She commented that it was usually safe to ride, even late at night, because there were a lot of cops and firemen who lived in those places that also rode to and from work, and who were likely to intervene in the event of some mishap or criminal activity. It kept everyone much better behaved, and made the city as a whole a safer place. Hopefully this program will translate into the same situation. Let’s just hope the extra employee riders have enough sense to know that a person with a camera is not a threat to the republic.
When I attended Columbia University night school, I would walk 125th St. to the NYC station and north (westward) to Westchester. Lots of NYPD Academy Cadets (grey uniform) on those trains. No problema, in the early 1960s. I’m sure there were regular cops, too, but in civvies.
