NJDOT in 1977

Got into some older negatives to scan from about January 1977, and unfortunately discovered that I was so bad at photography that there was almost nothing to share. Still managed to pull two images out that I hope folks enjoy for the nostalgia at least.

First is of an Erie Lackawanna Bluebird U34CH nose. Shot was taken while tramping through Waldwick Yard over Christmas Break 1976 (although the envelope was marked January 1977, so not 100% sure).

Second is of a set of Penn Central Jersey Arrow IIs running through Metropark on Jan 8, 1977.

As most of my photography at this point in time was not only poorly framed, but also on 110, it’s nice to find that I did take some 35mm during the time.

Don’t be so hard on yourself, the Jersey Arrow shot is good. At any rate, all of us have taken a lot of bad pictures while improving our skills, and a lot of my bad pictures include locomotives, stations and even railroads that have vanished from the scene.

Thanks, Paul… but I’m going to be 100% honest… anything that I shot that turned out okay in 1976/1977 was luck. About 1978 I started to figure out how to aim the camera.

My pic luck is just reverse…I am surprised how many good and decent shots I did get with 35mm Kodachrome 25 back then and can’t shoot worth shots today wih 400 film, 1000th of a second, auto this and auto that!
