I don’t know how many of you might be interested but I have written a series of blog posts for my Along the Right of Way blog about a kitbash project for the Nickel Plate 1000 series wooden caboose.

All five of the parts of the project have now been posted; part one can be found here:
http://thecourier.typepad.com/alongtherightofway/2012/01/nkp-1000-series-caboose-kitbash-part-i.html
If you are at all interested in the Nickel Plate, cabooses or kit bashing projects, I’d invite you to stop by and take a look.
Thanks!

This looks interesting! I am not into the NKP but I do like kit bashing.
When you get to the painting part I hope you will spend some time on how you managed to paint the grab irons so neatly.

Nice! I like how that turned out!
It turns out the Pere Marquette had ten cabooses (A260-A269) that were built at the same time and were nearly identical to the NKP’s 1000-series cabooses, long before the two roads were joined by common ownership.
Dave,
All five parts of the project are posted now. As to the grabs, they were sprayed off the model then installed.

Dan! Darn!!
Why didn’t you tell me that before I CA’d all the grab irons into a total of ten cabooses that I am working on right now?!?[banghead][banghead][banghead].
OK, humour me a bit more. How do you hold the grab irons when you are painting them? I’ll bet I know the answer already - you leave the stubs on the grabs long enough that you can hold them in a vise of some sort while you paint them, and then clip off the excess. At least, that’s my best guess.
Thanks for your answers and your great modeling.
Dave
