NKP 763

NKP 763 is supposed to be leaving Portsmouth around today enroute to Columbus to be handed over to the OC. If you didn’t know, 763 was purchased from the Virginia Museum of Transportation here in Roanoke and is due to be rebuilt by the OC.

thats great news this day and time. i didnt know it was going to be restored. i have some nickel plate books and it refers to the 763 as the best running berk of all by the engineers who ran her…

According to Tim Botti, an OC employee, the Berk is now in Morgan Run shops. No report on when the work will begin, but she is safe at her new home now. The most reliable source would be www.ocsteam.com.

Botti is by no means an OC employee. Just one of the steam department volunteers. This doesn’t discount his information, however. Tearing into 763 will not be an immediate process.

763 and 765 were considered by their crews the best locomotives anywhere on their respective ends of the Nickel Plate.

It might also be interesting to note the engine is sitting on former NKP right of way.
