NKP H10-44 safety stripes?

Hey everyone,

I finally got my decals the other day for my cary body shell that i’m lettering for NKP. These (if I remember correctly there were 9) units were delivered in '49 in the early black scheme without the safety stripes that would become a standard on all NKP switchers. However, I’ve exhausted my research on roughly what year they would have repainted in the shops. I’ve checked online and in several books, and the only photo I managed to find of one in the original scheme was taken in 1950. If anyone knows about what year they received their safety stripes, any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks

According to the official lettering diagrams available on the NKPHTS website, safety striping on NKP switchers was authorized by October 1950. The earliest photos I have of the H-10-44’s are from 1952, and by that time they wore the full striping.

Of course, that’s the drawings. I have photos of the 44-tonner and several S-1 and S-4’s striped by 1949, so the drawing dates may be a “trailing indicator” of reality.
