NKP PASSENGER BLUE?

HELP! HELP!

I AM TRYING TO MODEL NKP’S FLUTED SIDE PASSENGER CARS, AND I NEED A FORMULA FOR THE CORRECT COLOR BLUE. THESE CARS WERE BLUE ABOVE THE WINDOWS. NEED ALL THE HELP I CAN GET.

THANKS NKP764

Hello “nkp764,”

We published formulas for the blue used on the NKP’s Alco passenger diesels in "Nickel Plate “Bluebirds,” a Paint Shop article by Tony Koester in the July 1991 MODEL RAILROADER, page 134. Those paint mixes were based on comparison with actual paint samples supplied by the railroad back around 1960. I’d think that color would be at least close to what was used on the passenger cars.

So long,

Andy

Hey Andy;

Thanks for your information on the 7/91 PAINT SHOP article in MODEL RAILROADER, Nickel Plate “Bluebirds”. It seems to fill thebill.

I got very lucky and found that issue with second copy I picked up. With 36 years of back issues, stacked in no paticular order, this was real luck

Thanks again;
