Hi guys. How do I figure out the correct weight of my rolling stock in accordance with the NMRA. Thanks, Jamie
I am modeling in HO. Jamie
Jamie,
As I recall, for HO scale you should have one-half oz. plus one-half oz. per inch length.
Typical caboose 3 oz
40 ft car 3.25 oz
50 ft car 4 oz
60 ft car 4.5 oz
70 ft car 5.25 oz
Good Luck - Ed
Try www.nmra.org and look for “Recommended Practices” or “RP”
From the NMRA RP 20.1
HO is 1 ounce minimum + 1/2 ounce per inch of car. A 6 inch car should weigh 4 ounces. See:
