No. 4501 completes FRA test, moves closer to operation

@Matthew Nichols: Gettysburg Railroad, 1995

Long may it run

It will be great to see the 4501 pulling excursion trips again.

i herad she’ll be black instead of her more popular and actrictive green.

if so… I only hope tht they will eventually bring back her green paint scheme. I have long awaited this day. long live the 4501 and here’s to many more happy years f operation.

as a side note. will they bye chance bring back the other southern 2-8-2 6910 or is it 6930?

I like the green too!

We wouldn’t want to run our private property without a permission slip from the government. They only do that in a free country.

Great year for steam!

Mr Nichols. FRA steam locomotive inspections were written in the blood of accidents. May 4501 again have a long life.

This is great news. Regardless of color it will be a grand sight back on track.

I see one right winger complaining about the intrusion of the Federal Government into the private world. The FRA has always been involved in the safe operations of the railroads. The big push into steam locamotives was after a steam explosion on the Gettsyburg Railroad. Many of the private steam operators got together including Steve Lee of UP to hash out current operations of steam and what they all thought the rules should be. They came up with what they thought minimum saftey requirments and standards for testing and operation should be. The Federal Government then codified it so that all , I repeat all operaters were on the same page. I know that in your world that is the government intruding in your life but I gather from your comments that you have never worked on equipment that can cost people their lives if someone messes up.

Looking forward to seeing the 4501 back in action. Tennessee Valley Railroad is my favorite place to visit !

UP Big Boy 4014, N&W Northern 611, Southern 4501 and others… This is turning out to be a helluva year for Steam! YOWSAH!

The Ole Lady’s gonna be back at work right soon! She’ll be a grand sight for sore eyes like mine when she goes back to work!! I happened to be working Conductor at TVRM the day we dropped her fires; and I never did think it would be forever. Sure enough, it wasn’t!!
