okay to update my River Rossi Allegheny didn’t have any sound so I bought the TCS wow decoder I tested out at the local hobby shop and it ran fine sounded great about 8 months later I put it on my layout lights came on it moved but no sound I called TCS and they said send it back since they had a faulty batch get sent out and then sending a new one to me

Well I got the new Decoder I brought it to the hobby shop they installed it ran great on the test run ,got homeput it on my layout and it started up only lights in moved no sound

All My Sound locos run fine everything runs fine turns out this decoder is junk - grrrrrr so back to TCS it goes !!!

I suspect you are mistaken in blaming the decoder.

After a quick search on the Internet, turns out im lucky i have only

2 bad decoders from TCS ( smh)

If it worked on the test track at the hobby shop (I suspect under DCC) then it’s not the decoder. It’s maybe not configured to enable the sounds on DC.

So, what is the opinion of the hobby shop’s professional installer?

Have you taken the engine back there (after eight months) and have them test it again?

It is true that some of the first run WOW decoders had some kind of defect. I bought four of the early run WOW diesel decoders from Tony’s Train Exchange and they function just fine. I was under the impression that the defect was found only on the diesel decoders.

I bought six more of the latest run with the Alco and GE prime mover sound files and they are all fine. In addition I have four steam WOW decoders and they all perform well, too.

How you got two “bad” ones in a row surely beats the odds.

well i wish i beat the odds but it seems im not the only one &even thier tech support admitted to me that it was a large batch ughhh

Even TCS tech support said that is what happens to thier defective decoders sound stops working but everything else is uneffected

OK. Got it. You’re saying it went bad after you left the shop, where it WAS working. Twice. I suppose.

So I’m drifting into maybe/maybe not. I think you ought to take the loco back to the shop for a consultation. Since, at least on the second attempt, it failed just after you brought it home from the shop, you are within your rights to hand it to them and say: “It ain’t workin’”. Then they should either demonstrate that it DOES, which means you’ve got a problem at home; or it DOESN’T, which means they oughta fix it. And you shouldn’t have to be dealing with TCS (if that’s necessary); they should.

I had a decoder fail, all by itself, about a month after I got it home. It DID work on my layout for awhile. Then a flash, and ooopss…

My shop dealt with it without even a hint of balking.

That is basically my game plan if it is the decoder i will give

TCS 1 more chance after that im going to want a refund & wait till

The new generation of tsunami decoders comes out
