No TMCC or DCS For Me, I'm A Conventional Runner!

I have no interest in TMCC or DCS and the troublesome electronics that go with them. A lot of people turn their nose up at conventional running, but for me that is true toy train enjoyment. How about you?[:D]

I thought that way too until I got DCS. Too easy to install and run. I have lots of conventional [two new Williams SD90’s] that I still love to run [will upgarde them one day] along with lots of old Lionels. In fact I can run both at the same time. [8D] Run them the way you like and one day you may change your mind. If not, nothing wrong with that. The best part is you are having fun. [:D] I like your name. My son uses Frankie [Deputy Sheriff] and he is Frank the IV. That makes me Frank the III. Hang around with us. Glad to see the post. Join us in the “Coffee Pot is on” each morning to say how things are and to joke a little. Now we have a left banker that gets to the coffee pot at night due to the time difference.

Welcome aboard Frankie. I too run conventional… that is until today…bought some TMCC stuff to try it I may like…Tim

Conventional - TMCC - DCS…just like blondes, brunettes, and redheads. All are fine - just enjoy your favorite choice. The guy that runs his trains with a smile on his face is the ultimate winner. Have fun…!

I am now in my fourth year of running TMCC and I still have a smile on my face and we are having fun. [:D][:D][:D] Jim’s right, all are fine, just enjoy it. [8D]

In the photo below, I am running in conventional mode and I was having fun then too. [:)][:)][:)] Of course, TMCC was still some 40 years in the future.

Strictly conventional here too

I run both on different lines. Guess it’s just me. I have CDs, but I never threw away my vinyl or turntable. I did however, toss my beta and 8 track tapes[:D]

My 0 gauge runs conventional, but my h0 stuff I had before had a Lenz digital system built in. It is a very sophisticated way of driving trains, because you can switch the attributes on the loco on and off by distance…
BUT driving conventional has something else. It’s like driving a motorbike, less comfortable as a car, a bit more mechanical effort needed, but you are more in contact with the engine itself, it’s a direct control thing, every engine has it’s own behaviour and you know that. With Lenz digital, the behaviour of the train can be programmed and the train only runs when the right adress is chosen.
Like comparing a 1960 chevrolet apache with a modern ford F 150.

Hi Frankie,

I now run conventional too but am tempted to go to TMCC. I hear it’s easier to learn than DCS.[C):-)]

I’m a conventional guy, too. Well, very conventional, considering that all my trains are prewar and postwar-even some old windup trains. I’m the kind of person who usually finds new technology scary and intimidating. But to each his own. As other have said, the point is that you enjoy your trains!

I run mostly conventional but do have one of my loops wired for TMCC. There are some Lionel loco features that, although paid for, you don’t get to enjoy without having TMCC.

Still strictly conventional, although I might try TMCC or DCS one day.

Sandy, if DCS is harder to run than TMCC, you can throw away the TMCC manual. Took me only a couple of minutes to hook it up and only a few looks to make it run PS2 on digital. Then I was running conventional with DSC. Last but not least I was running conventional and PS2 in digial on the track at the same time. Now with my small temp loop, the last was a little tricky but I did it. I did all of this in a couple of hours playing time.

Chief - I can’t wait for you to admit how damn difficult that horrible thumbwheel is to operate! And how easy it is to depress it to enter data rather than rotate it. Honestly, I was really concerned about it before I bought it…

What do you think?

I think I could do that with my toes if my fingers were broken. [;)]

I’m with you Frank!
