Several months ago I purchased an Atlas N scale Trainmaster locomotive. I noticed right away that it seemed quite noisy compared to my other older atlas GP7 locomotive and at low to mid speed it sometimes squeels and even seems to gently jerk or shudder. I have put a tiny amount of light weight oil on the motor bearings and some teflon grease on the truck gears but this didn’t help too much. What can I do? Has anyone else had this problem? I haven’t run the engine very much since I purchased it, do I need to break it in? Appreciate any response. Thanks

Adam, I have had that problem with the newer Atlas B23-7 and SD60. I traced the problem to a painted stripe on the motor. I cleaned it off and the units run pretty good now. I wonder what the painted stripe was for since it was put on pretty thick. One thing for sure, they will run better after they have broken in and also they will run better if you “warm” them up first by running them around the track at a high throttle setting.
