i searched the site to no avail for info about posting images from just a film camera.is it possible? next fall i will be able to get a digital camera but for now i only have a cheap 35mm.thanks in advance.terry…
You can develop it then scan it in. Then you post it just like a normal digital camera. Host it, post it.
If the current image is not in digital form, you need to get it into digital form first. Then you can post it on here.
For prints, you need a scanner. Glossy prints scan the best, matte prints do not scan as well. Here’s an example of an affordable scanner:

For slides, it’s a little trickier. The most affordable slide scanner I’ve seen is the Pacific Image scanner, and it does a really nice job, too:

Another option with slides is to get a slide copying attachment for your high-end digital SLR camera. This makes it really easy to “digitize” your slides.
Or you can send your photos to a service and get them digitized for you for as little as 50 cents each. See: http://www.photoandsoundsaving.com/
You can also take your film to be processed in and ask for images on a CD in addition to your prints or slides. Most film processors offer this service these days.
So posting non-digital images online is possible, with the right hardware or service to digitize them.
Joe, it appears you’ve been around the block on this issue.
Could you offer some advice: I want to digitize the following:
- Three year old wedding picture negatives
(the photographer was not into digital at the time - just saw her a couple months ago, and she’s since gone digital. I was born 3 years too early!)
- 3 boxes of slides I found at my ill Dad’s house a couple years ago - including pictures of me in the hospital with my mom at my birth!
For preserving all these pictures, I’d rather spend money than do legwork. If it was as easy as scanning into the slide scanner and walking away, I’d buy a slide scanner. But I’ve heard there’s lots of cleaning, etc. necessary.
Advice? Thanks Joe.
P.S. - bummer to read your layout is out of operation while getting worked on by the pit crew for the next 6 months. I found your maintenance description very interesting. Owning a house a couple years now, I’m learning everything in this world ages and needs maintenance just like us people!
thanks for the info.i have a scanner but the software that came with it is confusing and very hard for me to understand.so confusing i took the scanner out of service and put it in the closet.will probably take the film and get the images put on a cd.as said before next fall i’ll be able to get a new camera and a new scanner.terry…
