Non-Turntable

Years ago I remember seeing pictures of a ‘device’ which held the locomotive and moved left or right parallel to the track to another track. It didn’t rotate the loco, it simply allowed it access to another track.

Now that I’m getting back into the hobby, I can’t find a thing on this ‘device’.

Anyone know the name of this ‘device’ and / or where I might find more info on same ???

It’s called a transfer table. I think Walthers offered a kit you could power so it would work, but its out of production now [:(]

You can probobly find one on Ebay or at a train show

TrainmanTy you beat me to it by a minuate. Yea it’s called a transfer table. Looks like the pic below:

BOY … you guys are GOOD - and FAST !!!

Thanx for the ID … now I can do a more informed Google search.

Again, thanx … Ed

Actually you can build one quite easily. Years ago I built one out of 1/8 masonite, but today I would use styrene and brass for strength. There are all the structural shapes you need ready made. For the wheels underneath, I rigidly mounted an old truck with only one wheel left on each axle(broke the other one off the axle. Just use regular rail (no ties) for the tracks for both the loco and in the pit for the table.

Heres two pix of the Walthers transfer table on my layout: It needs mods to work reliably, If you get one contact me , I’ll give some advice on getting it right.

I’m going to need one eventually. I was thinking of scratchbuilding the table, then rigging something up with a Bachmann Plymouth drive to move it back and forth.
