Cool story, a piece of railroading history saved.

This viaduct and surrounding neighborhoods were major locations in the Unstoppable movie.

Charity Search Engines as a way to raise funds.

Good things happen after all. Structures like this will never be built again; no amount of photographs, drawings, etc. can convey the majesty of this construction. “Nuth’n like the REAL THING!”

I’d like it better if it still carried trains!

Beautiful structure! I drive from Pittsburgh to Ohio a few times a year on I-70 & the I-470 bypas, but never knew this exists, and just three miles south of I-470. Who knows, a visit might also net some WLE action on the adjacent steel trestle. Wish I’d seen the curved, elevated junction, where the stone & steel bridges meet, back in the day.

Was this part of a though line or a spur?

It was a through line to the west toward Zanesville and Colombus, Ohio. The part that is still in use was originally more of a connection to the Pennsylvania and now is part of the W&LE and its connection to CSX in Benwood, WV.
