What kind of “spokesman” declines to comment?!

I get the impression that the NS management actually like running a railroad. That certainly bodes well for the company.

Awesome! F-7’s and E-8’s are some of my favorite locomotives.

Glad to hear that! F units anywhere, anytime - they are awesome! Now get some E8’s up & running.

The pictured units are on the shared Erie and NYC tracks. Passing by the restored Erie caboose near the Marion Union Terminal. Many hours I have spent in this location. ChooHam

Why not finish their holiday shopping by buying the two F-units in that Eastern Minnesota town before they’re scraped. A terrible waste of classic history, considering the 2 units still run.

Great news if they plan to keep them and do something with them

I wish they would put an emblem on the nose. A rearing horse isn’t going anywhere.

Resurrecting passenger service??

F7’s for Norfork ASouthern.
Very curious to know how NS is going to use the units. Will we blessed with a new tourist train?
I will try to follow any updates and thanks.

Talk about real heritage units. Good for NS. The F’s make a handsome sight on the roads business trains.

I believe the units are actually northbound on the NS main to Sandusky. The caboose shown (end platform) sits parallel to the former Erie-NYC trackage, now CSX. The building with the white roof is used by NS M/W personnel.

Remember the F-7’s well (S/NS -‘65 ‘till 2002’), cut teeth (Machinist) on the 4193 (overhaul). F units were simple, hard working, fast loading locos’ … but, curious as to why NS re-aquiring technology they traded-in/scrapped, decades ago -

Hope they paint them in the Crescent Green configuration, and can only assume they will be used with the business cars.

STEVE BEHLENDORF : I agree, those units in S.tillwater Mn are nice and it is a shame they will go to the torch

Great to hear that “someone” is retaining these great locomotives. Look forward to seeing them “back on track”
