Norfolk Southern Bridge Destroyed

Yhe Norfolk Southern bridge over the Grand River just west of Brunswick, MO was destroyed by a log jam following the undermining of the piers caused by high water flow. Railroad crews hurriedly cut the welded rails to save as much of the bridge as possible. Until the bridge is replaced the NS line into Kabsas City is closed, and detours will be required. This is the former Wabash RR.

Video of the bridge being carried away here

There also a photo on NSCORP website on the service interuption bulletin.

It appears to be between the point where the St Louis Line re-joins and this line joins the ex AT&SF for the last few miles into KC.

Positive Tree Control incident?

I swear I had nothing to do with it…

I sense one of next fall’s AREMA presentations at Dallas: “Norfolk Southern Emergency Bridge Replacement In Northwest Missouri”…

I wonder if any of the old deck girder bridge lives to see another day. NS/N&W replaced the rickety Wabash structure long ago, but they are investing heavilly between StL and KC on that whole ex-Wabash Route.

Darn Beavers!!!
