Norfolk Southern debuts ‘Eco’ units to Chicago

Now that’s a pretty neat Norfolk Southern paint scheme!

I saw the 4715 in the yard here in Crewe a few months ago, with the state of Georgia on the side. I agree with Jim, it is a really neat paint job. I’ve got a picture of it as the home screen on my cell phone.

Did they come equipped with bullet resistant cabs? That would be an asset in some of the neighborhoods where they must work around Chicago…

Very attractive paint scheme! I really admire NS for not just allowing, but encouraging, the many different paint schemes across their system with the heritage fleet, these “ECO” locomotives, and the the SD-40 (?) that was repainted in its original Erie Lackawanna scheme. Certainly makes the train watching more interesting!

Definitely a nice paint scheme!

It appears from the picture that the unit attached to 4701 is a slug as there are no engine cooling radiators.

I always though (since the N&W and Southern merger) that the NS loco’s should have been black (for N&W) with emerald green (for Southern) in place of the white. Or simply to use the old BN colors of green and black 9vs black and white).
