Norfolk Southern Derailment Schadenfreude

(This video link may have been posted before, but I only just found it.)

Not wishing bad luck or injury on anyone.

However, this derailment made me accept my own layout foibles with more serenity. If a real railroad and real crew can have a train hit the ground hard, then I can be easier on myself when my scale models perform as poorly.

Wonder why the NS did this? Anyone know?

I suspect the lead unit picked a switch…A improperly thrown switch can spring open if the switch handle is completely seated…I did that once and we dumped a boxcar–cost me 10 days suspension.[]

Thats why you hear Switch is lined and locked over the radio on “Hand thrown” switches. Kevin

Are you sure that’s a GP 38-2? It looks like a GP50.

Neat video , thanks for sharing !

Well, that just gets better and better. With only snap switches and no decoders for switches, or lighted indicators of any kind on my layout panel, I am often running a loco through an open switch. I bet I could fit right in with the NS yard crew.

I’d have racked up several years of suspensions on my layout by now [#oops].
