It is hard to believe that in the hay-day of coal exporting that this is a record, but maybe this is the hay-day of coal exporting. With the dwindling supply of Eastern coal is the last golden age of exporting “black diamonds”.
It would be interesting in knowing how much coal the other countries of the world burn and what they have in place for scrubbing. Then take this data to the environmentalists and send them to say China an let them demonstrate their talents there. Problem solved ! Ok now lets get that coal dug and moving right here in the good ole U S of A.
I’m being picky here, but the phrase in the title of this article (“largest-ever vessel”), which is incorrect should agree with the phrase in the body of the article (“largest vessel ever”) which is correct. Most modern day aircraft carriers are larger (longer) than the M/V Cape Dover, which is not the largest-ever vessel. Sorry for the rant.
It’s hard to believe it’s the hayday for me, too. Maybe the heyday?
What do you call a country which exports raw materials and imports finished goods? A colony…
Congratutions to the NS; their storage capacity at the Lambert’s Point yard make this, in part possible. Also kudos to the crews handling the actual dumping of the loads for the ship. I wonder where the whining enviro-nazies that we have to cope with here in the Northwest, were. No demonstrations, not complaining to the EPA? Remarkable and cooly efficient.
Dwindling supply of eastern coal?Where?
Thats a lot of coal and it must have taken a lot of coordination behind the scenes. Theres no beating the railroad when it comes to bulk commodities.
A picture would have been nice.
Does any one know where the coal was mined from?
