So do these trains use the old Delaware and Hudson from Sunbury, PA to Mechanicville?
Would be cool if they used the old Erie from NorthEastern Ohio to Mechanicville, but my thinking is that they go into heart of PA on old PRR and then up old D&H?
Thanks, Logan
Soon the restacking costs could equal the costs to widen and open up the Hoosac tunnel for double stack passage. I wonder if that is a future posibility…
I suppose anything is a future possibility. I know that a number of years ago the Belden Hill tunnel on the D&H main north of Binghamton was enlarged to handle the double-stack cars. This project also enabled the D&H to abandon the “ole” Penn. Div. line over Arrarat Mnt. through Carbondale to Scranton and to use the former DL&W (Erie-Lackawanna) line through Binghamton to Scranton instead. BIG improvement !
Logan-the trains use the former Erie Buffalo and Susquhanna Subs from a connection with the NS Nickel Plate line at Buffalo. They run through onto the D&H at Binghamton. The trains that use the Mechanicville terminal are NS 206/CP 938 eastbound, CP 939/NS 205 westbound. There are also NS 22K/23K that run over CP and through to the B&M to reach Ayer Mass. The former Erie from Youngstown is in place, but reaching it from Cleveland with the Erie Cleveland line gone is a cumbersome process, though that route is used by coal trains from southwestern PA and WV.
Thanks Guys. I learned more from comments above. NJ
