Norfolk Southern Question

I was walking down the River Walk, near home this morning, when I heard a locomotives horn coming around the bend and across the river from me. I took my camera out of the case and when I first saw the engines I concentrated on framing and metering for them. The train must have been opposite me before I realized what the two GP38-2’s were pulling. This had to be the cleanest, most spotless I’ve yet seen a train.

Can anyone tell me what this particular train is used for? Is it for special events, or VIP’s or what?

JaRRell

I’m impressed with the engine’s numbers…this is a 1st for me to see any lashups in numerical order !

I think that train is used specifically for RR personel such as CFO, CEO, and President of the RR. They are called Business Trains, and they are meeting places too.

I know, me too. I was looking through the camera’s viewfinder and when I saw the numbers I was surprised and didn’t even notice the cars at first.

JaRRell

Ok, thanks Collin. It was the cleanest train I think I’ve ever seen. As the engines cleared that first set of little trees, I thought… Wow, new paint job! Then I saw the numbers and it was a big surprise to see the cars.

JaRRell

That is Macon, right? Came in today?

Its the Big shot train!!! Kevin

right, came in today.

JaRRell

Well Kevin, the Big Shots have a mighty nice ride…

JaRRell

I guess the NS “Hummers” were in the shop…

Tom

Well, that train didn’t stop in Macon, or it had left before 7pm when we searched for it at the yard and at the Terminal Station. However, 4610, the Southern locomotive, was the trailing unit on a consist assembling an empty gravel train at Brosnan Yard. I finally get to see it, and its facing the wrong way!!! Oh well, at least I saw it.

I’ve got a big white N and S on order for my black H2.

How 'bout that! I haven’t seen it yet but would sure like to. A friend, who is an engineer for NS was telling me about 4610 just yesterday.

JaRRell

NS runs excursions with a “J” Class several times a year. #608 (I think) is home ported in Atlanta. They look like the cars used.
