Norfolk Southern RR - Michigan

Hi Everyone:

I live in Battle Creek not too far from Hinman Yard. Curious about where the covered hoppers come from each day. Heard it referred to as the Corn Flake Express because most of the cars are headed for Kellogg’s. I pass by the yard several times each day and am curious about the activity. I know a train is made up and moves east but I don’t know where it ends up. Later in the day the yard is full of cars, I assume brought back by the morning train that headed east. Where are the cars dropped off and picked up. I am assuming that no freight to speak of moves west unless there is a connection with Grand Elk Railroad in Kalamazoo. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks, Bob

Bob,

Try joining the Michiganrailroads.com or railroadfan.com forums - both are Michigan-oriented, and have fans local to Battle Creek that can answer your questions. The Trains.com forum - while helpful - is too broad-based to handle an inquiry that is regional in nature.

Good luck!
