Norfolk Southern’s Virginian Railway Heritage diesel debuts

Sweet!

Awsome

Its time for CSX to join UP and NS to honor its heritage fleets.

This is the paint scheme I have been waiting for! Keep it up NS beautiful job!

Oh wow, this is Lionel’s 55 catalog pic of their VGN Trainmaster all grown up. What a shame no US Trainmasters were saved. Bring this unit to Norfolk where I can return to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when out of the west came the thundering drama of opposed pistons.

Now if only Amtrak would paint its equipment in the beautiful color schemes of its predecessor railroads.

I suppose Southern should be the first road to come to mind when thinking of the N&W/SOU merger, but somehow the N&W and the Virginian have always been linked in my mind. Maybe that’s because they competed between Tidewater and the Appalachian coal fields (as Trains current Map of the Month shows). Anyway, all these roads are covered by NS’s heritage units program. And looking resplendent, too.

Maybe somewhere in all these color schemes NS can find some other color to paint its locomotives. The VGN unit is beautiful. All the units have been very nicely done, but so far the original NS is my fav.

Looking forward to hopefully seeing VGN unit climbing grade with coal train at Merrimac, VA (Alleghany Tunnel) on former VGN tracks.
