Does anyone know where I can get a timetable or tables for the North and South Carolina areas? Specifically the Atlanta-DC mainline, lines serving Ashville, NC, and lines serving Columbia, SC? Does anyone have a map that lists the names of these lines?
Norfolk Southern does have a route map that is fairly detailed. I don’t know if they routinely hand it out to people (I got mine from an engineer). As far as timetables are concerned, I am in the dark with you as well. I do have old operations instructions for the NS Central of Georgia branch, but no timetables.
Please refer to the timetable link below on my website. The only Piedmont Div. TT I have up so far is the Greenville Dist. between Norcross, GA and Greenville, SC. (this page is currently geared primarily for the state of GA) Since the Piedmont is a very large division, please specify which districts you want (town names along the lines will suffice if the district name is not known), and I’ll type them up, and put them online.

Do you have any for the Lake Division?

NS timetables are not in booklet form anymore, they are inserts for the NS rule book folder.
You still may be able to find older booklet types used on ebay.
mp173,if I had only grabbed the old Lake Division timetables at the old Portsmouth passenger station before they tore it down.I saw boxes of them lying in a room on the 2nd floor.
I miss those booklet types, because it was easier to look something up.Now we have those stupid “floppy” binders [:(!] !And you can’t find anything your looking for fast.
Sorry, I don’t have that Division yet. If I ever do, I’ll post it online… (provided I don’t get sued by NS or CSX for posting all of this info!)

Allen,
Please send me your email address off list, and I’ll let you know when I put the SC timetables up
Mack:
Dont we all shake our heads at “what could have been”? I remember as a 12 year old travelling from home to Colorado by train and we detrained in Kansas City at the Union Station.
I made a beeline to the timetable rack and grabbed one of each. I felt the long arm of the law on my shoulder as my dad quietly but firmly told me I could have 1 timetable. Still got it…a Union Pacific beauty with the system map on the cover.
If only he wouldnt have seen me!
Hope everything is ok in your world.

Hi MP173,
Not sure if this applies to what you’re looking for, but I have an NW Fort Wayne Division timetable dated 11 April 1982 given to me by a brakeman when I was just a young pup. It lists the Fostoria District, Chicago District, New Castle District, the IMC line and a few others.
I know NS has realigned the divisions and such and since I’ve spent most of my military career stationed overseas, it’s hard to stay in the loop on all these things.
I’m originally from Montpelier, Indiana by the way, where the thoroughbreds still polish the rails on a very frequent basis. If you’re interested in the timetable I have, perhaps scanning in the first 8 pages with all the towns, mileposts, sidings, etc, just give me a shout[:)]
Big Ed:
Thanks for the offer and welcome to the forum.
I have two NS employee timetables - one is about the same age as yours and the second is about 15 years old, so there is no need. I wouldnt mind having ‘fresh’ info.
Had to check the Indiana map to find Montpelier…never been there.
Stay in touch.

Ed,
Thanks for the welcome. Yes, the bustling metropolis of Montpelier with its one stoplight and about 1,800 people, is a little tough to find. I always say it’s just about halfway between Fort Wayne and Muncie. Hey, we’ve got 5 grade crossings in about 1/3 mile stretch.
I was a happy camper when NS built the passing siding just to the south around the 84-85 timeframe. Central States grain on the edge of town kicks out a good chunk of rail traffic, extending off the siding. An ethanol plant is under construction now (go figure!) which should increase the carload count in the near future.
There are several ethanol plants going up in that area. Should be an economic lift to the NS. Many of the trains on that line come thru Valpo. Trains 177, 215, 216 all turn the corner at Ft. Wayne, plus either 233 or 235 and the counterpart. I believe it is 235/236 that runs your way. Also 230 and the 264 Roadrailer.
