Any time that I see a stack train go by with 100 to 200 containers loaded, whether full or empty, I know that an equal number of trucks have been taken off of the interstates. That alone has more benefits than just reducing the stinking diesel fumes. It reduces the number of trucks that I pass me on the way down a hill and then get stuck behind going up the other side of the valley.
Not only that but more freight that rides the rails, the less damage is done to the roads and the fewer trees have to be cut down to clear right-of-way for additional lanes to carry all of the traffic.
“GO RAIL”

Just another group of mis-informed , but well-intentioned folks who buy into the global warming - uhh- climate change hoax. Ponder this - if carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, then as CO2 levels in the atmosphere rise, the earth’s temperature should also rise. In fact, the opposite has occurred. According to the UN’s IPCC, the gurus of climate science, CO2 levels are higher than ever, but no warming has occurred since 1997. The fact is that all the hype and hysteria come from computer model projections, not on actual scientific data. If the earth is warming, then why are the ice sheets at the poles much larger now than in recent years? All the wailing we’ve been subjected to over the polar bears and their shrinking habitat is pure BS. Remember all the stories about the mega-hurricanes that would devastate the planet after Katrina hit? Chicken Little, call your office.
We allow ourselves to be fooled by so-called “science” which is nothing more than conjecture and fear-mongering by those who seek ever increasing control of our lives and lifestyles, while the Bobby Kennedy Jr.'s of the world fly all over the globe in their private jets. The rules they would make for us will never apply to them.
The truth is that we puny, insignificant humans have only the most rudimentary understanding of the forces that govern the operation of this planet. We are powerless to stop hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, and other things that occur on a regular basis. There isn’t a computer model anywhere that can factor all of the variables to make accurate predictions about climate, because so many factors such as water vapor and cloud cover can’t be quantified with certainty.
I am not advocating recklessness - we are charged with the responsibility to be good stewards, and as a nation we have made vast improvements toward that end. However, the environmental movement has been taken over by extremists who want to force their vision of eco- and social utopia on eve

Well, I own a little NS stock, and I breathe, so I for one care. Good for NS, good for the environment (it’s really not either or), good for customers, good for stockholders. Wins all around. Welcome to the 21st century.

Who cares.

No offence Mr. Norton, but we all should all care.

Well put Messrs. Erena and Lee; I couldn’t agree more.

No offense taken Mr. Alexander. We all should be good stewards. Mr. Wheeler sums it up pretty good.

My point in stating “who cares” is the railroads have much more impressive accomplishments to tout than “carbon.”
