does anybody edit what the kid writes?

How do the economics work out? In 2011 there were 2600 carloads handled, and the new transload will allow up to 5 times faster handling. However, only 1400 carloads have reportedly been handled thusfar in 2012. What is the advantage of handling far fewer carloads up to 5 times faster?

Jeffery is right about the eco-nuts. I live within 30 miles of 4 sand mines in WI. They have billboards on the interstate and some picketers quite regular. Its good paying jobs for us.

Really, Charles, how trivial can you be ? Also, how do you know it was written by a kid ?
Hey Edmond, there is presently a moratorium in New York State on new hydrofracking until the NYS. DEC. completes an environmental study of it’s impact, so I imagine the demand for the sand is currently reduced. It will probably increase in the future.

Interesting subject. I wish the article would explain the operation in relation to the entire project. For example: are these cars coming in and being transloaded to ships for “X” destination? Is sand coming in from ships and being loaded to freight cars for destination “X”? Or, is this a “terminal unload” and processing akes place there. I have visited the oil sands project up in North Alberta and CN has alot of that. Thanks, CHEERS!

I would like the article to give more info. Are these cars inbound to tranship to other cars or trains or ships? Is this sand coming to be processed there? I have visited the oil fields in Northern Alberta and CN has alot of that. Thanks, CHEERS!

Send in the anti-drilling flat earth no growth eco-terrorists to start protesting. That is, if they have not shown up already to attempt to shut down the facility. The railroad had better have really good security around that facility.

I live a mile from this facility. Nobody around here objects to the train and truck traffic, and the anti-fracking people don’t target HOST or any of the multitude of drilling support companies that populate the former “Holding Point.”

Drilling has slowed a bit this year, as the boom of a couple years ago drove gas prices down to where new wells were not economical.

There has been a small upturn in the industry lately, it should grow at a more steady, somewhat slower rate than the early boom days.

The real wild card is whether drilling will be allowed in New York. The HOST facility is perfectly situated to be the center of activity for the entire eastern half of the Marcellus shale region.

I say bring on the trains! It’s refreshing to see business and industry moving in the right direction for a change. The Wall Street Journal once dubbed my home town “the buckle of the rust belt.” We can certainly appreciate the turn of events hydraulic fracturing is bringing this depressed area.

NY Governor Cuomo just hit the reset switch on gas drilling in the state. Everyone holding permits will have to go back to the drawing board and start from scratch. The new facility may not see the growth they were anticipating just months ago when the governor was giving the green light. It’s one heck of a way to plan your business growth with spineless leaders like him.
