When and why did amtrak leave Norfolk. They currently serve New Port News which is near Norfolk. I understand there is a large station their do any trains serve it?
My guess is the old C&O to Newport News is less congested than the former N&W. I rode out to Newport News in August '03; not much to see near the station really, except for Kanawha #2756 across the street. (But the track to Newport News is in much better shape than the ex-C&O segment near Orange and Gordonsville where the Cardinal runs). Most passengers got on the dedicated connecting bus which then proceeded into Norfolk.
