Crandell

Don’t worry, it’s only a couple years’ salaries worth.

I want.

Thats some incredible worksmanship and engineering.

If they can build that, why don’t they just build a full sized 1:1 of it?

That is quite something. I wish I was talented enough to build something like that. Even if I was, the tools required for such a project would cost a fortune.

Thanks Crandell.

It’s all very nice and well Crandell, but just try to imagine how much of your ground goop you’d have to make to scenic around the “Beast”.[;)]

Seriously there are some talented people out there.

Cheers, the Bear.

I have a model just like that except it’s in the Pennsylvania scheme, and is in HO scale.

Very impressive [tup]

Beautiful!!! Gotta wonder how much that puppy weighs???

Tom

I was thinking the same thing, Tom. My guess…with just the obvious metal and an unfilled/tubed (?) boiler, the locomotve would run about 300-360 lbs, and the tender about 150 pounds. I don’t know what scale it is, but it appears that two men would struggle mightily to hoist the locomotive…safely.

I almost don’t want to think about the hours into that thing, or the machining costs and materials. If he were to sell it, I’d bet someone would pay $25K. An old friend cautioned me, a notoriously poor estimator, that I should force myself to double all estimates that I make…so we can go with about $50K.

Crandell

Gidday Crandell, Don’t worry I tend to fall into the same category, may not be comparing apples with apples but…

I took the kids to the local park to ride some trains. Well the engine derailed when a switch wasn’t in the correct position. I suggested we lift it back on the track and promptly got a funny look. The engineer said it weighed 600 pounds and we’d have to get the crane.

Knowing the engine that derailed was 600LBS, I would have to guess that the loco in the video is at least 800LBS or more, as it is definitely larger than the one we were riding behind.

I now know why all these guy’s own F-350s. They need that much truck to take their trains and all the gear out to play.

yeh’ youse wouldn’t want it running over your fingers that’s for sure n certain…

And seeing that it was totally silent am assumimg its electric powered, wonder what size motor that brute has in it…

Unless there are two of them, its a “live steamer”, in Crandells link I would suggest that it is being run on compressed air.

Crandell,
The detail on that unit is spectacular, thank you for sharing!!!

Gee, I might could use it in my garden RR!

That scale is definitely for those with failing eyesight and dexterity…

Cost is no object when you love your hobby {yeah right}

Wonderful {posting} job Crandell!

The man walking beside the loco looks to be holding an air hose so my bet is compressed air…

Shoot, Waldoboro’s only about 35 miles away. Don’t think it would fit in the back of a Ford Ranger, though. At 1/8 full size, it’s got to be about 12 feet long. Besides, I don’t have convenient access to $50K,
