North America’s largest railcar under construction in Pennsylvania

I actuall got to run a schnanel bar train in August 2010 on the IHB. All management said was PLEASE be careful!!! And the road foreman was with me the whole way… I guess to make sure I was careful!! I got a thumbs up!!

Bachmann trains makes an HO model. Visit their website.

Too bad there wasn’t a photo of this equipment to include with this story.

What is the biggest in the world?

Trix built an N Scale version, a couple of Years Ago. I think Micro Ace of Japan, has these available as well.

The biggest question was not answered - how much weight will it carry?

I agree with Steve Hanson.

If Kasgro and the buyer will release the information, please run a follow-up here with movement dates & routing. This would make a great railfan catch.

In N-Scale there is a new kit made by Elginlocomotiveworks, it’s really cool. I agree a photo or 2 would have been great, maybe in the print version of the magazine?

Amen on a photo. There are many of these news stories that would be a better report with a picture added to the story.

I assume photos won’t be available until the car is completed and they have a chance to roll it outside. I do hope see one in Trains.

How does this car compare to GE"s car?

A comment posted there is part of the press release:
Kasgro Rail Corp. announced that its newly manufactured Schnabel Car, WECX 801, is considered the World™s Largest Railroad Car. The 231-foot, 400-ton, 36-axle car rises 18 feet above the top of the rail and has a load limit of more than 1,000 tons. WECX 801 can shift up to 40 inches laterally and 44 inches vertically, according to a Kasgro press release. WECX 801 will be owned and utilized by Westinghouse Nuclear to transport nuclear reactor containment vessels. It’s scheduled to enter revenue service at the Port of Charleston in July.
