Northern Pacific Dining Car in the Tacoma Tideflats

I’ve wondered about this tarped car since it showed up one day several years ago. Now I know.

Here’s a link to a story at the Tacoma News Tribune.

Photos and video clips, as well as a story at the link.

Depending on how often you’ve visited the TNT site without paying, you may not be able to read the piece. In a nut shell a Dave Burns owns the car. Moved it from Easton, is trying to restore it. Tacoma Rail owns the site it’s currently stored on and now needs that site, so the car must move. Of course Dave doesn’t have the funds to move it again and is looking for help.

Thanks, Steve.

This sining car is a perfect match for the equipment of the Napa Valley Wine Train, also mostly ex-NP of the same period, via the Denver Ski Train.

Here is a more detailed report on the car.

I’m on the other side of the continent & am not very familiar with the situation. Nor do I have the money to be the savior here. It would seem that the group in Toppenish, Washington, might be able to provide a good home, but there are lots of expenses and logistical problems to overcome, not the least of which is the time factor. Aren’t there any people with money in Tacoma who care?
