After the bombings in London, many of us made posting to our friends in the UK expressing our concern and our sympathies.
My 12 year old daughter spent several weeks over there last summer, and rode both the underground, and one of the double decker buses.
She wants to go back, and visit her friends.
Last night, she showed me a web site one of her friends from Wales had sent her…
You might want to look at it, and see how the rest of the world feels…
…Neat web site Ed…years ago when in England doing some work I had a chance to ride the underground…the different “color” lines…It was really neat…a great way to get around. Sure hope they can establish enough security to keep them all safe and rolling…The Brits seem to be breaking open this latest case with great speed…Good for them…
There was a two-page spread in one of the national newspapers last week showing some of the images that people had made and sent to the site - I think some of them have great potential as a way of showing our defiance. We are not afraid. Angry maybe, but not afraid.
Yes, when we quite they really DO win…so let’s NOT quit. My wife and I were very saddened to read in the paper this morning about the 14 children in Iraq killed by a suicide bomber yesterday. THESE PEOPLE ARE ANIMALS WHO DON’T GIVE A *** ABOUT ANYBODY. THEY WANT TO HAVE THEIR KIND OF IRAQ AND WILL EVEN KILL INNOCENT KIDS TO GET WHAT THEY WANT…THE WORLD WILL BE MUCH BETTER OFF IF THEY ARE ALL DEAD THEMSELVES AND JUST LEAVE THE REST OF THE WORLD ALONE TO BE HAPPY.
Bravo to the Unafraid Brits. I flew just a couple weeks after 9-11, and still have no fear of doing so (well…other than the fear of strip search by the TSA! [:O]) Keep the faith guys!
A cop afraid of the TSA! That in itself says something.
I am so glad we have all that airport “security”; I just love that FEELING of safety, even though I realize that airport security is just so that we have a feeling of security.
As events in London (and elsewhere) have showed, a determined terrorist cannot be stopped, only diverted to another target.
Thanks for posting the Web address.
G.M.A. this morning, had an interview with one of the Brits
responsible for starting it,and an American family showing
off some of their T-shirts,slogans,etc.
Quite an interesting interview;and we ALL can get something
out of all this.
For the record, I’m not a cop…just drive a cop car.[:p]
I’m not necessarily afraid of the TSA, mostly afraid of the crap one has to deal with when traveling these days. I made the mistake of buying a one way ticket once (Amtrak one way, United back). Yeahhhhhh…will never do that again.
I was searched about 4 different times. Very complete, thorough searches, too. And of course, I had a lot of camera stuff with me, so that took forever. And it was in my pre-digital days, so I asked for hand inspection of the high speed stuff, and that only exasperated the TSA people (can you imagine the gall! I was searched 4 times, and they got upset when I requested a perfectly legal hand inspection of my high speed film…just the high speed stuff!).
I really take objection to the whole thing. I highly doubt that all this BS has really done much apart from inconveniencing regular folks trying to enjoy the speed and comfort of flight. Anymore, with the TSA garbage, I’m not sure how much of that exists. Thank heavens for Amtrak. The Zephyr may not be the fastest way to Chicago, but it’s certainly the mode of travel I enjoy the most. And that’s not just because I’m a railfan, either.
Isn’t “All your base are belong to us” a quote from an old computer game? Not a clue which one but it appeared on an episode of Futurama where they were battling assorted old game characters!
I think part of the intent of the photos is to show the terrorist that life goes on…normal, goofy, funny and sexy things…that what they do will not change who, and what, we are.
Yeah, it is from an old video game (Nintendo or Sega, I’m not really sure). The game was made in Japan, but when all of the dialog was translated into Engli***hat is what one of the lines was. And now it has become a big internet thing, and has really made it’s way into pop culture (i.e. Futurama).
Neat site though, thanks for sharing it! England is still on my list of places to visit in the near future!
