Not all squares are created equal

I am building a foamcore building and i am using the fine wire mesh for the window frames, the mesh is not equal or welded correctly, can someone give me another idea of what material to use. This is for a window with the measurement of 14 by 8 each square is a foot in o scale . thanks.

I’m guessing you mean 14 panes high by 8 panes wide for each window, each pane being 12" square ??

In O scale 1/4 "poultry wire should have the correct dimensions, but, I’m guessing this is what you have already tried and are unhappy with, also the profile where the wires cross would be unsatisfactory, for me anyway.

Laser cut would be the best option and probably cheaper than buying several things for failed experiments.

Kingsmill Enterprises do custom laser cutting.

Also Dave Krakow at VectorCut (hope I spelt his name right)

Personally I’d try Walt at Rusty Stumps Scale Models first though, a great guy and usually eager to help a fellow modeller out. I know he has done similar things previously for ‘others’.

My dad built a model of a church some 60 years ago to publicize a fund-raising effort for a new church building. His model was about 1/2" scale, of twice O scale, made of plywood, withHARDWARE CLOTH to suggest window frames.

Not up to 2010 fine-scale standards, but interesting.

Can you buy scale architectural parts in your scale, such as those by Grandt Line?

How about the square plastic grid sold in craft stores for needlepointers?

Could you lay out narrow gummed paper strips on clear plastic to simulate window frames? (They would admittedly be flat…)

I have used the K&S Brass etched metal screen in various squares per inch.

When I was doing a model that required glass block windows (basement window) I made the window frames out of the brass screen and then used the Microscale liquid glass material (which is just Matt Gloss) to make the glass look of the Glass Blocks.

It worked out well and when I needed larger size window glass openings I just cut out the squares into larger open ones.

Think cutting out little crosses into larger openings. Takes a little work but I was able to get the proper scale sized windows!
