Has anyone ever traded your HO collection for N scale at an LHS that states they “trade”? - I do have part of the collection earmarked to be sold, built into scenic modules or dispensed through trade. I only have room for N scaleatthis point after the move here.
I’ve done it with N before now - traded a load of awful Graham Farish N stuff for some far nicer Fleischmann locos. Would probably have got more had I sold the Farish N via ebay but this was much less hassle and as they had the exact Fleischmann locos I wanted it made sense.
YES!
I was very hurt when my dad traded our HO scale stuff when I was 9. But he felt that N-scale was more suitable for a layout in the basement. I even tried 2 deliberatly cra***he Nscale engines (Mostly Bachmann and LL), and blow them up. Lost alot of their parts and such. After awhile I know my dad got frustrated working with it, and when I was 12 we went back to HO scale. Still have some of the “Good” track and an engine and like 2 cars and a caboose. Other than that its all gone.

P.S. I havent run that stuff in 10 years and it sits in a cigar box.

Chuck, a trade would be a quick and easy way to do it. However, you have to figure that the store will want to be able to mark up the trade items and sell them for a profit, so you probably won’t get as much for them than if you were to sell them yourself via e-bay for example. Then go to the LHS with a wad of cash and see if you can’t get a discount for buying so much at once.
I once tried to sell some of my stuff to a hobby shop, they wanted 200 buck for a lot I was offering, but I refused that because I knew the value was above that.
sorry, no sale. Ebay will be my friend.
no, never traded off to another scale, sticking to HO.
Even though I have switched scales twice (HO to O to S). I have never gotten rid of anything. Guess I’m just a packrat at heart. Plus you never know when you might switch back.
Enjoy

I could immagine, that your collection will have a part that because of being out of production/sought after etc, will sell readily and for good prices (e.g. on e-bay),
But after that, the remaining will take a lot of time to be sold, if at all… (those models that are no more up to date with the quality, actuality of the subjetc etc: just look how the the price of older bachmann steamers fell after sound-equiped new models entered the market )
Possibly you make a good compromise money/hassle if you sell directly on ebay what you recognise as ‘better pieces’, then leave the hassle to sell the shelf warmers to the LHS for a lump sum (surely a lot under buying price… but with no buyer the value is only theoretical!).
Go to some swap meeting or follow on ebay to see what is selling and what just end piling up on the desk of sellers…

I did 027 for HO for more realism. I’m not sorry I went to HO, but I am VERY sorry I got rid of my Lionels…[:(]
