How many trains a day take the New Castle Sub through Nova Ohio? Also, what is the Speed Limit for Trains through here, because in some of these videos below, look pretty fast? These are not my videos.
Nova, OH is MP 182 on the CSX New Castle Subdivision. It handles roughly 20 - 24 trains per day, on average. It may get 30 on the best of days, on account of the bulk commodities. Hotshot trailer trains/doublestacks are allowed 60 mph through town, and freight is good for 50. If a passenger train (such as the CSX Geometry Train or OCS) ever runs through Nova, it is good for 70 mph. So technically, none of the trains in these videos are speeding. They are doing track speed pretty exact. The video of the “fast” westbound seems just-right for a w/b intermodal. This is one of the “higher speed” portions of the New Castle Sub. From about Lodi to Seven Hills Rd in Herefork is high speed.
I apologize for my up close, lame shot of Q136 going away from the camcorder at Nova. It was a rainy day, and had I faced the camcorder the proper direction, the lens would’ve gotten bombarded with rain drops. The camcorder also isn’t quite as close as it seems. I put a little telephoto on the shot. It wasn’t as wide angle as it can get.
The stairs are still there, and are not blocked off. I ran up there once to shoot westbound Q385 (which no longer runs). It offers a decent vantage point.
