I remember seeing ads in MR for a resin model of CNs HR616s back in the mid ninties. I even sent for information at the time and got some sales brochures but unfortunetly it was to expensive for me at the time. I’ve been wondering whatever became of the company that produced it, NovaTech Plastics. They also had a kit for the turbo train that was also beyond my budget ( I was a teenager at the time)![:(]Does anyone out there own one of these models? Was the quality any good, and are they still in business?[:D]
I don’t recall the specifics, but the firm went out of business quite some time ago. From reports I’ve heard they probably folded because of the quality of their models. Very coarse I’ve read on Canadian YahooGroups over the years. There were several of these so called “firms” that were either way over their heads, totally incompetant, or shysters. Or combinations of all three. Some of the principals started one firm after another, and generally gave a bad name to the resin model industry in Canada. I’d suggest forgetting about any of their products at any cost.
Other reputable resin firms have sprung up, such as Sylvan Scale Models and Kaslo Shops. They both produce high quality models that are worth having. Kaslo has been delving into some of the obscure Canadian models, and may be working on the HR616 now or in the future. Look up their website on Google and see what they are up to, and maybe ask them re this model.
Good luck!
