November is my lucky month!

Last year while in Texas in November, I found three of the UP heritage units holding just outside of College Station. Today, I found this holding just outside of Boone, IA.

Always very impressive no matter how many times you see it. Dave

I wish CN and CP would create a few “Heritage” loco’s. UP did a nice job on the ones they’ve done so far.

BEAUTIFUL! It is a thrill to see them up close, isn’t it? Here’s a thread with the photo of the DRGW Heritage I got to see recently: http://www.trains.com/TRC/CS/forums/929177/ShowPost.aspx

Great pics!! Thanks for sharing!

Was that an actual C&NW scheme? I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it before.

since i don’t know a lot about paint scheme’s and etc what does the word heritage stand for? also what type of loco’s are they and are they available in ho scale? BTW them are beautiful picture’s.terry…

Here’s an answer for you and Darth Santa Fe:

In 2005, Union Pacific started its Heritage Unit Program. The program would consist of six SD70ACe’s each painted in a scheme representing one of six railroads that made Union Pacific what it is today. The paint schemes would not necessarily be actual schemes worn by the railroad it represents, but the scheme would definitely clearly define the railroad. In addition to a unique scheme, each unit would be numbered according to the year the railroad in question ceased, becoming part of UP.

The units that would be represented in the program are as follows:

thanks don for that great info.i love prototype RR’S but just don’t keep up with what RR went bankrupt and or was acquired by another RR.i actually didn’t know UP acquired CNW.terry…

Thanks for the info, I love the Daylight inspired heritage them for SP. I don’t model UP/SP but I’d like to have one just because it’s a great looking paint job. I’d love to see CSX/NS do a heritage type scheme on some of the roads they’ve aquired. It would be cool to see some of their units in PRR, NYC, NH or Chessie colors. I think an NYC lightning stripe inspired Dash 9 would be a pretty good looking unit!

Even though the lead unit is a Heritage unit, Its nothing Speacial. The Trailing units however are the ONLY 2 CNW units still PAINTED for CNW. I have tried several Times to catch them. I came within 2 miles of Catching the 8-40C before she was patched, but we had to stop and get gas, while we where getting gas she left. Another Time I was In chicago Me, and 4884bigboy and another friend took Metra out to Elmhurst, hoping to catch 8646 which was sitting at the terminal, We could have seen it had we had a car…

I hear you that seeing the original paint is a quickly passing opportunity. But – to me – the Heritages ARE pretty special. I think it’s a cool idea to say, here’s how these fallen flags’ logos might look if they were around today. I’m all enamoured with them[:I]

By the way, Tower 55 says they’re planning models of them. Ship date “TBA.”

Thanls, everyone, for the great comments. I was so tickled when I found the CNW. There are only seven (to my knowledge) special paint jobs and I have captured four of them!

Now, to convince my wife we need to take a vacation out west to catch the other three…
