Novice DCC question

In the fall of 2007, I bought a Digitrax Super Empire Builder DCC system with a 5 amp power supply. In early 2008,I hooked it up to my unfinished layout to see how it worked. I had 2 DCC equipped loco’s that I tried out…it was great. That same year I had a medical issue and kinda laid back for awhile. Then in mid 2009, I stripped my layout and donated/gave it away. I put my Digitrax system back in the box and on the shelf. Since then,i have been building a new layout (HO). It is 10 x 8 and has about 130 feet of track. Now my question…my DCC system is almost 5 years old and hardly used,is it out dated? or can I wire it up with no problems?..Thanks in advance.

I bought my Digitrax Big Boy system in the mid 90’s, used it until 2005 when we bought another house. I did not get a chance to build another layout until March of this year when I started on this one. I hooked up my Big Boy system, and it worked great. The newer systems have better throttles and the command station is better, so as time and $ permit i will upgrade. I did start to upgrade to Tsunami sound decoders and I love them.

Willy,

I think your SEB will serve you quite well. Hook 'er up!

Hi Willy,

The only significant change in the Super Empire Builder in the last 5 years is that the throttle has been updated to the new DT402 model. The most significant advantage the 402 has over your current DT400 is that it supports 29 functions, so if you get into sound DCC, then you might want that feature? If you do, for $25 including shipping, you can send the throttle to Digitrax to have it converted into the DT402 https://www.digitrax.com/support/conversions/dt402/ the command station would not need to be upgraded to support this. If you decide you want to add the new radio features you can do that as well.

So without doubt you can hook up your system and use it with confidence.
