CHEERS! BRAVO! [:D][tup][bow] [:D][tup][bow]
Garry–I’d like to see something like that up close—This really has me wondering about backdating designs on the new lokes—
Sweet.
Saw the recent announcement of “what if” schemes Athearn is releasing soon. The Chessie System GE will be in my motive power pool…
It seems to be a Photo Shopped image. Some fuzziness around the red band, and the gray superstructure above doesn’t quite seem to belong or fit. Maybe just my eyes.
The date on the image IS April 1st…
I received it by email, and asked the sender to confirm.
I just looked at the BNSF website, and found no mention of it. People may be interested in “official” photos from BNSF of their fallen flags. http://photos.bnsf.com/Gallery/home.asp
Regardless, it would be a terrific model!
It was an April fools joke.
John.
Is it just me, or does that locomotive look either 10 seconds out of the shop or computer animated. It does have a suspicious lack of drivers???
It looks “Painted”. (Literally)[;)]
Here is its current roster shot.
Photoshop? That’s too much credit given. More like Microsoft Paint. And isn’t that black a bit to…pastel… for even a true heritage paint scheme. Now if it was an actual MODEL loco that someone painted up AS a heritage scheme it would be kind of neat. Heck for that matter if the creator would have just said ‘I was bored one night and made this on my computer’ it wouldn’t be as insulting. Makes me wonder a bit if it was someone who thinks ill of our hobby and was trying to poke fun at us.
Along the ‘what if’ line, there’s a site that a fellow did using the NYC scheme on current SD’s. Actually looks kinda sharp. He runs them on a club out west I think.
As far as this thread, neat idea, but yeah, could use a bit of touching up
Mega DITTO! I was looking to have one custom painted anyhow! Athearn saved me the trouble.
This showed up on the CB&Q Yahoo list on April first and was made by a Q fan. No conspiracy theories here, just a guy having fun for 4/1.
John.
Garry:
Well, DARN! And I was just about to think that BNSF was going to come out with some “Heritage” paint schemes that weren’t screwed up like UP did with theirs, LOL!
Sure looks good, though.
Tom
yeah, all we need is a steamer in a Conrail Scheme and were good to go…
Dinwitty:
Actually, one of the decal Mfgrs (either Walthers or Microscale) put out decals for Conrail Steamers some years back. And a couple of modelers actually DID them for a joke. It was pretty frightening, LOL!
But nowhere NEAR as frightening as those God-Awful UP “Heritage” schemes! [xx(]
Tom [:)]
If not Conrail, why not BNSF? Do you recall they painted up the SP 4-8-4 to be a BNSF steam loco for special trains? …(… and they won’t rally paint up an SD70MAC to look like CB&Q)
Garry:
What’s really interesting is that BNSF allows SP #4449 to run on their rails in Oregon and Washington along with their SP&S 4-8-4 #700, while UP, which devoured SP, won’t allow #4449 on their rails in California, which was the GS’ stomping grounds. Last time that beautiful Daylight came south down here to Sacramento, she had to run down the BNSF ‘Inside Gateway’ instead of the now-owned UP Shasta Route.
Go figure, for cryin’ out loud! [%-)]

It was Walthers, and do you remember the hubbub it generated about whether or not a manufacturer should or should not offer such fantasy? I believe that there was a full page “rebuttal” in one of the mags about all of it.[2c]
