Guys- I 'm a diesel fan from wayyyyyy back, but this is the most realistic model I’ve ever seen as far as smoke effects, especially if this is not live steam, only an added effect!
Even if you don’t care one bit about steam, European models, or smoke, watch this video! If the effects last as long as you run the engine, this is fantastic!
That is the best modeling representation of smoke I’ve seen. And after a few thousand times of running this, the track and scenery will actually look just like the real ROW.
Wow! Ok, the smoke from the cylinders represents steam from the cylinder cocks - I get that. Can they cut off the cylinder cocks after the cylinders warm up? And will the spectators need respirators? I was at the GTE in KC the other day - they had a G-gauge coal drag running with two Y-class Mallets on the point and one pushing. All with smoke. Even in that huge hall, it got a bit thick.
I think he was just trying to hammer home its a heck of alot more realistic looking than the craptastical smoke effects most model trains currently put out… [#dots]
Although certainly better looking than what other locos I’ve seen create, assuming that it must be from some sort of chemically derived smoke I certainly wouldn’t want to visit that train room without a respirator, or have the job of cleaning and maintaining the track, scenery, etc. (necessary on an every-other-day basis?) after running a couple of the these engines at a ops session. Somewhat impressive…but undoubtedly quite impractical, perhaps even dangerous to one’s health, in the long run.
You guys are cracking me up, I don’t understand why anyone in there right mind would ever consider running a live steamer or a smoker like this indoors in a poorly ventilated area…
Then again alot of people have a hard time grasping the idea of “common sense” so I guess your responses arnt all that surprising…
You “crack me up”, as it were. I wouldn’t consider running anything like this on my layout, indoors or outddors. It doesn’t look realistic, even by comparison with other locos with smoke.
