Now you can have that copper Roof you always wanted.

While at Lowe’s today I saw some copper flashing. I bought a roll that was 8 inches wide and 20 feet long. They have a 10 inch wide roll also.
So with tax added it would run about $1.00 a foot.

It has a paper backing glued on the back side with what looks like tar.
The backing should be a good base to glue the copper using most glues.

I crimped the edges of the copper panels with my hand-break, so I would have interlocking panels.

Here are the individual panels.

The panels locked together.

It goes through the Fiskar Paper Crimper, paper and all.

The panels should look great after they turn green with age.
I’ll have to see how the Sun effect the tar paper.
I was thinking about roof gutters made from this copper too.

THIS was posted in Unlikely treasures , not long ago, you could get at home depot.

I posted photos of my project in “unlikely treasures”. I didn’t do the courregations because the project was small. Good pixs!

Did you crimp it with the backing still attached?

Walt

Walt,
Crimped it with the paper attached.
I tried removing the paper to much work getting it off.
It went right through the Fiskars paper crimper, no problem at all.
Metal, paper, and tar all together is .0156 inch thick, 1/64th inch…
I’m going to put some of the copper out in the sun to see what happens to the paper backing.

Nothing, that’s what will happen. This stuff is designed to be on a roof for at least 40 years. Your best bet is to heat it with a professional hair dryer on high heat and scrape with a putty knife. The backing doesnt’ bother me in the least.

The copper does turn a nice shade of brown after about a week or so, then the green will turn some time later, maybe 6 months or a year. In anycase, I don’t see what is better to use for a copper roof than copper itself.

There is so much of it on a roll, I think all my buildings will be sporting copper roofs…hmmm, that’s kinda like Imperial Rome being covered in marble, I like it!
