NS "Bean" trains

It appears that NS has won a contract to begin delivery of unit bean trains (that’s right…BEANS) to an agricultural processing plant near Valdosta, GA. It also appears that “furrin” power is going to be the norm on these trains…like the one below caught on Sunday.

Today’s train brought two UP SD70M’s for power…

What kind of beans? NS has been delivering soybeans to the Cargil vegetable oil plant in Gainesville, GA for years. They usually come as long unit trains of around 90 covered hoppers. They, like all of the railroads also use a good deal of swapped power.

Dunno the exact type of beans (my money would be on soybeans). They’re headed to Con Agra. This is a new contract that is putting even further stress on an exhausted extra board. Trains are already starting to get backed up due to lack of crews…

Who owns the Centreal Soya cars ;Centreal Soya or another company?

Central Soya used to lease cars from Pullman Standard. The reporting mark was PTLX. I’m not sure if this is still true.

Central Soya uses there own covered hoppers (centerflow) with CSYX reporting marks.
