Title says it all.
I don’t, but Athearn C44-9W would be just fine. There are no external differences between the two. I know some guys who do have them and they love em, even the ghost scheme.
There is a difference between the C44-9W and the C40-9W. The C44-9W has low headlights and the C40-9W has high headlights.

The differences you mention are road-specific. It seems NS is the only road to place the lights above the cab window instead of on the nose. Otherwise (excluding NS) there is no externall difference between the Dash 9-40CW and 9-44CW.
Just get an Athearn RTR Dash 9-44CW, fill the nose lights, and add the upper set. No one makes a prototypically accurate NS Dash 9. If you like the Evolution series, Tower 55 makes a prototypically accurate NS ES40DC.
Thanks, I didn’t know that.[:)]
Kato offered them in thier 1997 production run, two number plus un-numbered.
Yes I do! I detailed and painted an Athearn C44 to match NS #8909. The worst part of the job were the handrails and the truck sideframes. I used Smokey Valley handrail stanchions and bent my own rails, but I still had some trouble getting all of the stanchions soldered to the rails without overheating everything. I would do it again though, as the effect is well worth it. The trucks needed the shocks and mounts scratchbuilt to match this loco. They were a pain to get “close enough”, let alone perfect! The fuel tank around the air tanks was a challenge too, but not the worst. Sorry, no photos yet, as the loco is not 100% done and we are going to Scout camp for a week in the morning.
